Baumane Biruta Fritsevna

1922-2017

Soviet and Latvian artist. She was born on 6 June 1922 in Kalnamuiza, in Tervete. In 1948 she graduated from the Latvian Academy of Arts (1941-1948) under the guidance of Professor Janis Liepiņš. In 1951 she married sculptor Kārlis Baumanis. Since 1956 she has participated in exhibitions. Since 1959 she has been a member of the Latvian Union of Artists, holding the position of a board member. Honoured Artist of the Latvian SSR (1986). Baumanis worked in the domestic genre, painted portraits, landscapes, still lifes and nudes.
