Talented Russian landscape painter, genre painter and animalist. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under V. G. Perov and I. M. Pryanishnikov. Since 1888 he exhibited paintings at the "Peredvizhniki". Later - an active member of the "Union of Russian Artists". From 1899 joined the faculty of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Academician of painting since 1905. Known for his paintings depicting the life of the Russian countryside, hunting scenes and the nature of Russia.
